What a Boat Dive in Havelock Is Like

Shore dives are good, but the experience changes when you pull up to a reef by speedboat - fins on, giant stride, and you're in the blue. Boat access reaches walls, swim-throughs and coral gardens you cannot swim to from the beach.

You don't need experience. Your instructor briefs you fully before the dive and stays within arm's reach the entire time. You get one instructor to yourself, not shared with another diver.

A shallow reef by the red channel marker off Peel Island, with huge barrel sponges and a sunken scooter and bicycle covered in coral.

Sea turtles, moray eels and clouds of anthias over a shallow reef. Five minutes out by boat, which makes it the easy pick if you are short on time.

Lighthouse

The reef under the old Havelock lighthouse. Sea turtles, nudibranchs and gorgonian fans, and enough light in the shallows to get good photos.

Boat Diving in Andaman: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know swimming to do a boat dive?

Basic comfort in water is required - you don't need to be an expert swimmer, but you should be able to float unaided. If you can snorkel, you can dive.

How long does the whole experience take?

Expect 3-4 hours from the time you reach the dive centre: briefing, boat ride, the dive itself (30-40 min underwater), and the ride back.

What is the difference between a boat dive and a shore dive?

Shore dives enter from the beach and are limited to sites within swim distance. Boat dives use a speedboat to reach offshore reefs and walls that are inaccessible by swimming - they typically offer better visibility, more marine life, and deeper options.

Can I change the dive site after booking?

Yes - notify us at least 24 hours before your dive. Site changes to a higher-priced site will require a top-up. Moving to a lower-priced site will be refunded as a voucher for your next experience.

What if I get seasick on the boat?

We recommend taking an OTC seasickness tablet (like Avomine) the night before and the morning of your dive. Boat trips range from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the site. Most guests have no issues.

What does the Pro Upgrade include?

The Pro Upgrade (+₹1,000) extends your bottom time by 10 minutes, increases photos to 30-40 HD shots, and bumps video delivery to 5-6 edited clips with priority same-day WhatsApp delivery.

Are photos and videos included in the base price?

Yes - 20-30 HD underwater photos and 3-4 videos are included in every booking at no extra charge. Select the Pro Upgrade if you want extended coverage.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel 72 hours or more before your dive and you get a full refund, minus a 5% payment gateway fee and GST. Inside 72 hours, or if you do not show up, there is no refund. Dives between 15 December and 15 January are non-refundable. If we cancel because of weather or safety, you get a full refund or a free reschedule. Full details are on our refund policy page.

Absolutely fantastic scuba diving experience! From start to finish, everything was extremely well organized and professional. The instructors were highly experienced, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, very patient.

What I appreciated the most was how much attention they paid to my interests. Whenever I pointed towards a particular coral reef, fish, or anything I wanted to see, they took the time to guide me there and show it to me properly. They genuinely wanted me to enjoy the experience rather than simply complete the dive.

The boat dive itself was an amazing experience, and the whole team made me feel comfortable and confident throughout. Their expertise, patience, and passion really made the dive memorable.

If you're looking for a professional, friendly, and truly enjoyable scuba diving experience, I would definitely recommend them. A fantastic experience and absolutely worth it!

Took my first forest walk with Frogman. Kailash took me on an amazing forest trail.
It was one of a kind experience which I’ll remember for a long time. I was expecting for a calm and tranquil experience and got to the best out of it.

The way he explained about the little things we saw at the forest was top notch.
Came back from the forest walk and booked another one the next day. It was EPIC, I’d say.

If I have the chance to come back to Andaman, I’ll definitely take the forest walk again.

What an experience! We as a family enjoyed every bit of this activity. We did the lighthouse scuba dive. Never had the experience this close with the variety of fishes and corels. Must do while in Havelock and frogman makes scuba diving comfortable and relaxing. Founder Suchit is very professional and the instructors and divers are also very professional. They all know their responsibilities and passion. Neelkant, Ketan, Rubin and other divers were very patient and explained everything (does and don't) underwater. The team really makes u comfortable and tries to push themselves and us for an excellent experience. If time permits, will book this dive again. If not for sure next time.

We had a wonderful experience with Frogman. We had Neelkanth and Ketan sir as our diving instructors. It was our first time trying it out. The pre-training was very clear. In the first 10 minutes open sea, I even had a panic reaction, but Neelkanth sir calmly got me to the surface and explained my mistake patiently, and we went back underwater, and it went all superbly well!

Boat Scuba Diving in Havelock: Dive Sites, Season and Price

Boat scuba diving in Havelock begins at the jetty rather than the beach. A speedboat takes you out to one of seven reef sites around Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), you kit up on board, and you enter the water with a giant stride off the side. The ride is short, usually 5 to 20 minutes depending on which site you pick. Those few minutes put you on reef that no beach entry can reach. Red Pillar, Tribe Gate, Juvi's, Lighthouse, The Slope, Turtle Beach and Aquarium all sit in open water, and no two of them dive the same.

The reason most people choose boat diving in Havelock over a shore dive is what lives out there. Tribe Gate has sea turtles, moray eels and clouds of anthias. Juvi's has around 500 metres of potato coral formations with resident cuttlefish and white-tip reef sharks along the deeper edges. Lighthouse is the site for turtles, nudibranchs and gorgonian fans, The Slope for stingrays and passing barracuda, and Aquarium for angelfish, parrotfish, clownfish and hawksbill turtles. Turtle Beach is a staghorn coral garden where green sea turtles are seen on most dives. Visibility on these outer sites usually runs 15 to 30 metres. Depths across the seven sites range from 3 to 25 metres, and beginners stay within 12 metres with an instructor beside them for the whole dive.

The season for boat diving in Andaman runs from October to May. March to May usually brings the flattest sea and the clearest water, while June to August is monsoon and the outer sites often stay shut for days at a time. Because a boat dive means open water rather than a sheltered bay, anyone who gets seasick should take a tablet the night before and again on the morning of the dive. One more thing worth planning around at the end of your trip: leave at least 18 to 24 hours between your last dive and your flight out of Port Blair.

The price for boat scuba diving in Havelock starts at ₹4,000 at Red Pillar and goes up to ₹7,500 for the premium sites at Turtle Beach and Aquarium. Every price is inclusive of GST. Every booking covers the speedboat, full scuba gear, a strictly one-to-one certified instructor who stays with you for the whole dive, and underwater photos and videos sent on WhatsApp the same day. No certification and no diving experience are needed. The minimum age is 10 and there is no upper age limit. You only need a doctor’s sign-off if you answer yes on the medical form.
