Juvi's - Potato Coral Giants & Reef Shark Encounters

Juvi's is one of Havelock's most distinctive dive sites - not for depth, but for what lives in the shallows. A 10–15 minute speedboat ride deposits you at a reef blanketed by 500 metres of potato coral: rounded, bulbous formations found nowhere else in the Andamans. The shallow depth (4–12m) means extraordinary natural light, minimal currents, and extended bottom time even for first-time divers.

The real draw is the reef sharks. Juvi's is one of the few shallow sites in Havelock where beginners reliably encounter white-tip reef sharks - calm, non-aggressive animals that cruise the reef edges at 8–12m before disappearing into the blue. It's the site where people who think they're afraid of sharks change their minds entirely.

Best Time to Dive

Peak Season
December – April

15–30m+ visibility, 26–29°C water, flat seas. Reef shark sightings most reliable - mornings especially productive.

Excellent
October – November

10–20m visibility, peak fish biomass, fewer crowds and better value. Pre-peak season - still great.

Avoid
June – September

Monsoon season. Rough conditions, poor visibility, site may be inaccessible. Not recommended.

"Juvi's is where I take people who think sharks are scary. The reef sharks here are calm, curious, and completely non-aggressive. Beginners get their first shark encounter in water they can handle. And the potato coral is genuinely unique to this site."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Juvi's suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Shallow depth (4–12m), minimal currents, excellent visibility, and a 1:1 instructor make this one of Havelock's most beginner-friendly boat dive sites. No certification or prior experience required.

Are the reef shark encounters safe?

Completely. White-tip reef sharks at Juvi's are non-aggressive animals that cruise predictable patrol routes along the reef edge. They are accustomed to divers and show no interest in people. Frogman instructors have conducted hundreds of dives at Juvi's without incident. It is one of the safest shark encounter sites in India.

Are shark sightings guaranteed?

Sightings are regular - among the most reliable at any shallow site in Havelock - but not guaranteed. They are most consistent during peak season (Dec–Apr) in early morning slots when sharks are most active. We will always be honest if conditions suggest a lower-probability day.

What are potato corals and why is Juvi's special?

Potato corals (Lobophyllia spp.) are rounded, bulbous hard coral formations that are extremely rare in the Andamans - Juvi's has the largest known concentration in the region, spanning 500 metres. No other dive site in Havelock offers this formation, making Juvi's genuinely unique.

How long is the boat ride to Juvi's?

10–15 minutes by speedboat from Govind Nagar jetty. The site is near John Lawrence Island, about 7km from our dive centre.

What's the difference between Juvi's and Tribe Gate or Nemo Reef?

Nemo Reef is a shore dive - calm, very shallow, ideal for first-timers nervous about boats. Tribe Gate is a 5-minute boat dive with excellent coral and turtles. Juvi's is a 10–15 minute boat dive specifically known for its unique potato coral and reef shark encounters - it's the choice if sharks or distinctive coral formations are your priority.

Are photos included in the base price?

Yes - 30 HD underwater photos and 3 videos are included in the ₹5,500 price. The Pro Upgrade (+₹1,000) increases coverage to 40 photos and 5 videos plus 15 extra minutes underwater.

What is your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 48 hours before your dive. Cancellations within 48 hours receive a 50% refund or a full-value reschedule voucher. No-shows are non-refundable. Weather cancellations by Frogman are always fully refunded.
