About Purple Haze scuba diving

Purple Haze is a sloping reef on the west coast of Havelock named for its soft purple corals and sea fans. Fusiliers and sweetlips move over the top of the reef, and the slope drops from about 10 metres to 25.

You start with a theory and shallow-water session, then descend with your instructor holding on to you for the full 30 minutes underwater. No certification, no experience and no swimming needed. 30 GoPro photos and 3 videos are sent to your phone the same day.

What you'll see

Soft corals and sea fans. The purple and lavender soft corals that give the site its name cover the upper slope.
Fusiliers and sweetlips. Loose schools move over the reef top; sweetlips hang in the shade of the coral heads.
Anemones with clownfish. Scattered across the reef top at the depth you spend most of the dive.
Butterflyfish and angelfish. Pairs working the coral, easy to watch at close range.
