Stay down longer, surface less tired. Learn to dive with enriched air in half a day.
Standard scuba air is 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Nitrox (also called Enriched Air or EANx) is any blend with more than 21% oxygen, typically 32% or 36%.
Nitrogen is what limits your dive time. Breathe less nitrogen, absorb less of it, and you can stay at depth longer before reaching safety limits. Nitrox is not about diving deeper. It is about diving longer.
Say you are at 25 metres watching a shark. On air, you might have to ascend after 20 minutes. On Nitrox, you could get 35 minutes. Nearly double the time with the shark.
What Nitrox gives you:
Longer Bottom Time: Longer no-decompression limits, especially between 18m and 30m.
Shorter Surface Intervals: Less residual nitrogen means you can get back in the water sooner between dives.
Reduced Fatigue: Many divers feel less tired after Nitrox dives, which helps on multi-dive days.
Universal Access: Many liveaboards and resorts require this cert for certain dive profiles.
Open Water Divers: You can take this course right after (or even during) your Open Water course.
Deep Divers: A must for sites like Dixon’s Pinnacle.
Age: Minimum 15 years old.
Price: 9,500 + 18% GST
Note: This usually covers the “Dry” certification. Nitrox tank fills for fun dives may have a small surcharge.
What is Included?
The RAID Nitrox course focuses on practical safety. It is called a dry course because the certification happens on land, though we recommend diving with the gas so you can see the difference on your computer.
Cover the physics of oxygen exposure, Maximum Operating Depth (MOD), and oxygen toxicity. You do this from home or your hotel before arriving.
You learn to analyse the gas in your tank using an O2 analyser, then log the mix and label the tank yourself.
Set your dive computer to Nitrox mode so it calculates your new limits correctly.
Dive on EANx32 and watch your computer give you extra time compared to your buddy on air.
