Havelock is worth visiting all year, but the months are genuinely different.
Peak season. Settled weather, calm sea, best underwater visibility and the most comfortable walking. Also the busiest and most expensive period, so book ahead.
Hot and humid, sea still generally calm, and noticeably fewer people. Diving is still good. Do the walks early rather than in the middle of the day.
Southwest monsoon. Rain comes in bursts rather than all day. The sea can be rough enough to cancel boats, so build slack into your plan. The forest is at its best and the waterfall actually runs.
Northeast monsoon tails through the earlier part of this window, then conditions settle quickly. Late November onwards is excellent and slightly less crowded than December.
A rainy day is not a lost day here, and it is worth knowing that before you panic about the forecast.
One dive or snorkel, Radhanagar at sunset, and one nature walk. Tight but workable.
The sensible minimum. Two water activities, two beaches, a walk and a clear evening for stargazing, with a buffer if the sea turns.
Comfortable. Adds a full-day trip such as Barren Island or South Button, or an Open Water certification, which needs four days on its own.
Certification plus fun dives, all the walks, and time to do nothing, which on this island is a legitimate plan.
Two rules worth planning around. Do not dive within 24 hours of a flight, so put your last dive a full day before you fly out of Port Blair and fill that day with the walks above. And ferries between Port Blair and Havelock can be cancelled in bad weather, so do not plan to land in Port Blair and fly home the same day you leave the island.

Most of this list. Every try dive is one instructor to one beginner, holding you the whole way, and no swimming is required. Snorkelling is done in a life jacket. Kayaking, the nature walks, stargazing and the island tours need no swimming at all. Filter by “Non-swimmers” above to see only those.
Nemo Beach at ₹2,500 if you want the calmest possible start, since you walk in from the beach. Red Pillar or Tribe Gate if you would rather be on a boat and see a bit more reef. Any of the eight work for a complete beginner.
Yes. The intertidal walk, mangrove walk, bird watching, forest trail, waterfall trail and secret beach all take online bookings now, with the same 10% advance option as the dives. Their start times move with the tide and the weather, so you pick a morning or afternoon slot and we confirm the exact time on WhatsApp the day before.
You are not charged. Several of these run only in the right conditions, and we would rather move you to another day or refund you than take you out in weather we are not happy with.
November to March for settled weather, calm seas and the best underwater visibility, though it is also the busiest and priciest. April and May are hot but quieter and still good for diving. June to September brings the southwest monsoon with rain in bursts and occasionally rough seas, but the forest is at its best and prices drop.
Three days is the sensible minimum. That gives you two water activities, a couple of beaches, one nature walk and a clear evening for stargazing, with a day of slack in case the sea turns rough. Two days is possible but tight. If you want a scuba certification, budget four days for the course alone.
Guided nature walks at Rs 1,500 each: an intertidal walk at low tide, a mangrove walk, bird watching for Andaman endemics, a forest trail, a waterfall trail and a walk to a quiet beach. Stargazing at Rs 2,000 on clear nights. Plus the beaches, which cost nothing. These are also what to book for the 24 hours before you fly, when diving is not allowed.
Diving usually continues, since rain does not affect conditions underwater; it is wind and sea state that cancel boats. The forest and waterfall trails are actually better in wet weather, and the intertidal and mangrove walks run on the tide rather than the weather. Stargazing is the only activity a cloudy sky genuinely cancels.
