If you are looking for the best place to learn scuba diving in India, Havelock Island in the Andamans is hard to beat. Warm water year-round at 27 to 30 degrees, visibility of 15 to 25 metres, and coral reefs that are a 10-minute boat ride from shore - not a 3-hour trip like most mainland dive centres. Frogman is a RAID dive centre with PADI-certified instructors offering 9 courses from complete beginner to professional Divemaster.

We offer two certification pathways: PADI (the world's most popular dive agency) and RAID (performance-based training with online theory). Both are recognised worldwide and valid for life. Not sure which one to pick? The course comparison and FAQ sections below will help you decide. Every scuba diving course at Havelock Island is taught with a strict 2 to 4 student-to-instructor ratio - no factory batches, no shortcuts.

Why Learn Scuba Diving in Havelock Island?

wave divider

Year-Round Diving Conditions

Water temperatures hold steady at 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. Visibility regularly hits 15 to 25 metres. You train in clear, warm water - no drysuits, no shivering, no fighting surge during skills practice.

Dive Sites Minutes Away

Our training sites like Nemo Reef and Aquarium are a 10-minute boat ride from shore. Mainland centres in Goa or Pondicherry often require hours of travel to reach decent reefs. In Havelock, you spend your time diving, not commuting.

Pristine Marine Life

Sea turtles, reef sharks, manta rays, nudibranchs, and healthy coral gardens. Your training dives in the Andaman Islands are better than many certified divers' holiday dives elsewhere.

Best Value in India

Havelock offers dramatically better diving conditions than Goa, Pondicherry, or Netrani at comparable prices. You get pristine reefs without flying to Thailand or the Philippines.

  • You like having your digital cert card always on your phone
  • You want a modern, tech-forward training approach

Scuba Diving Courses in Andaman: FAQ

decorative divider

Which scuba diving course should a complete beginner take in Andaman?

Start with either PADI Open Water Diver (₹28,000 + GST, 4 days, certified to 18m) or RAID Open Water 20 (₹28,000 + GST, 3-4 days, certified to 20m). PADI follows structured day-by-day training while RAID uses performance-based learning where you progress when you master each skill. Both certify you to dive independently with a buddy at dive centres worldwide. At Frogman we offer both, so we can help you pick the right fit.

How much do scuba diving courses cost in Andaman?

At Frogman in Havelock: PADI Open Water is ₹28,000, Advanced ₹26,000, Rescue ₹26,000, EFR ₹12,000, Divemaster ₹85,000, Zero to Hero ₹1,70,000. RAID Open Water 20 is ₹28,000, Advanced 35 is ₹26,000, Nitrox is ₹9,500. All prices are plus 18% GST and include gear, boat trips, course materials, and certification fees. No hidden costs.

What is the difference between PADI and RAID certification?

PADI is the world’s largest dive agency with structured, day-based training and the widest centre network. RAID is smaller but fast-growing, with performance-based learning and all theory completed online before you arrive. RAID offers slightly deeper limits (20m OW vs 18m, 35m Advanced vs 30m). Both are internationally recognised. The practical difference is teaching style and the specific instructor, not what is printed on your card.

Is Havelock Island a good place to learn scuba diving in India?

Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) is one of the best place to learn scuba diving in India. Water temperatures stay at 27 to 30 degrees year-round, visibility is typically 15 to 25 metres, and dive sites are a 10-minute boat ride from shore. You train on real coral reefs with sea turtles and colourful reef fish from day one. Compared to Goa, Pondicherry or Netrani, the Andamans offer much better underwater conditions.

Should I combine Open Water and Advanced in one Andaman trip?

If you have 6 to 7 days in Havelock, doing both back-to-back works well. You finish Open Water in 3 to 4 days, then Advanced in 2 to 3 days. This unlocks deeper sites like The Wall and Minerva Ledge that entry-level divers cannot access. With PADI the combined cost is ₹28,000 + ₹26,000 + GST. With RAID it is ₹28,000 + ₹26,000 + GST. Many of our students do both in one trip.

Do I need to know how to swim for scuba diving courses?

Yes. Both PADI and RAID require a 200-metre swim and a 10-minute float or tread water test before certification. You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, just comfortable in deep water. Warm 27 to 30 degree water in Havelock makes these tests far more relaxed than cold pools or quarries. If you cannot swim, Frogman offers Try Dives (Discover Scuba) where an instructor stays with you the entire time.

Are scuba diving certifications from Andaman valid worldwide?

Yes. Both PADI and RAID are members of the World Recreational Scuba Training Council. Courses in Havelock follow the same curriculum and performance requirements as anywhere else in the world. Your certification is valid for life and recognised at dive centres in over 180 countries. There is no expiry, though we recommend a refresher if you have not dived in over a year.

How many days should I plan in Havelock for a scuba course?

PADI Open Water takes 4 days, RAID Open Water 20 takes 3 to 4 days. Advanced courses are 2 to 3 days. EFR and Nitrox are 1 day each. Rescue Diver is 3 to 4 days. Divemaster runs 4 to 8 weeks. Zero to Hero (beginner to Divemaster) takes about 60 days. Plan at least one buffer day on each end for ferry timings and the 18-hour no-fly rule after your last dive.

Can I go from complete beginner to Divemaster in one trip?

Yes. The PADI Zero to Hero Internship takes you from non-diver to Divemaster in about 60 days. It includes Open Water, Advanced, EFR, Rescue and Divemaster for ₹1,70,000 + GST with accommodation included. You save over ₹16,000 compared to doing each course separately. By the end you will have 60 or more logged dives and can work at dive centres worldwide.

What is included in scuba diving course prices at Frogman?

All prices include full scuba equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins, tank, weights), instructor training, boat trips for all dives, course materials and eLearning access, certification card fees, and drinking water on the boat. Divemaster and Zero to Hero packages also include accommodation at our facility. No hidden charges for equipment or materials.

When is the best season for scuba diving courses in Andaman?

The best conditions are from October to May when seas are calm and visibility peaks at 20 to 30 metres. Water temperature is comfortable year-round at 26 to 30 degrees. Frogman operates all year, but June to September brings monsoon conditions with rougher seas and we may use more sheltered sites. December to February is peak tourist season, so book early for those months.

Why choose Frogman over other dive centres in Havelock?

Frogman is the only centre in Havelock offering both PADI and RAID certifications, giving you the freedom to choose your training path. We maintain a strict 2 to 4 student-to-instructor ratio, use Scubapro equipment, and have certified over 500 divers. Our instructors are full-time residents who dive these reefs daily, not seasonal staff rotating in for a few months.
