About the PADI Divemaster Course

This is not a typical 4-day course — this is an internship. Over several weeks you become part of the Frogman crew, working alongside experienced instructors with real student divers. You will leave not just certified, but experienced.

The PADI Divemaster is the first professional level in diving. It qualifies you to supervise training activities, lead certified divers on fun dives, and assist instructors during courses — and it is the mandatory prerequisite for the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC).

What's Included & Excluded

The Divemaster course has two cost categories — what Frogman covers in your course fee, and the standard PADI professional costs you pay directly to PADI (as with all dive centres worldwide).

Included in the Course Fee

  • PADI Divemaster certification processing & digital card
  • All training materials — Divemaster manual, slates, logbook
  • Full use of Frogman's BCDs, regulators, tanks & wetsuits
  • Live internship — assisting with real Open Water students
  • Dive site mapping project (charting a local reef)
  • Professional skills workshops: Search & Recovery, Deep Dive Planning, Rescue scenarios
  • All three training modules with full instructor supervision
  • Accommodation referrals & on-island support throughout

What You Will Achieve

  • Supervise and guide certified divers on fun dives independently
  • Assist our PADI & RAID instructors during Open Water and specialty courses
  • Conduct Scuba Review refresher programmes independently
  • Lead dive briefings, plan dives, and manage dive groups
  • Eligibility to enrol in the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)

Excluded (Standard Professional Costs)

  • PADI application & registration fee (~USD 150) — paid directly to PADI online
  • Personal dive gear: mask, fins, snorkel, dive computer, SMB (strongly recommended by this level)
  • Emergency First Response (EFR) certification if not already held
  • Accommodation & meals during the internship

Career Pathways After DM

  • Enrol in the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
  • Work as a divemaster at centres in Andaman, Thailand, or the Maldives
  • Assist courses and guide fun dives at Frogman Havelock
  • Progress to PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT)
  • Build your career in the global dive industry

Entry Requirements

The Divemaster is a professional rating — the entry bar is higher than recreational courses. All requirements are strictly enforced by PADI.

PADI Rescue Diver
You must hold a PADI Rescue Diver certification (or equivalent from any agency). This is a firm prerequisite — no exceptions.
EFR Certification
A valid Emergency First Response (CPR & First Aid) certification issued within the last 24 months. We offer EFR at Frogman if needed.
40 Logged Dives
Minimum 40 logged dives to begin. Don't have enough? Join us for fun dives or a Master Scuba Diver prep course to build your log before starting.
Age 18+
You must be at least 18 years old to earn the full PADI Divemaster rating. A Junior Divemaster rating is available from age 15 with restrictions.
Medical Clearance
A physician-signed PADI medical statement is required. As a professional-level course, Frogman requires this before training begins — no exceptions.
Water Comfort
You must complete timed swim tests on Day 1: 400m swim, 800m snorkel, 100m tired-diver tow, and 15-minute float. Practice in advance if possible.

Three Training Modules

The Divemaster programme is structured across three progressive modules. The timeline is flexible — most candidates complete it in 4–6 weeks, giving time to really absorb the experience.

Module 1
Knowledge Development
Deep study of dive physics, physiology, equipment, dive environment, and supervision skills. Includes the Divemaster manual, self-study exercises, and a comprehensive final exam. This module builds the theory foundation a professional leader needs.
Module 2
Water Skills & Stamina
Timed assessments: 400m swim, 800m snorkel, 100m tired-diver tow in full gear, 15-minute float (hands clear of water for last 2 minutes), and a full equipment exchange with a buddy while sharing one air source. Demonstrates professional water comfort.
Module 3
Practical Application (Internship)
The core of the course. You will map a local dive site, conduct live dive briefings, lead a deep dive scenario, and assist Frogman instructors during real Open Water student training. This is hands-on leadership experience with actual divers.
Throughout
Professional Skills Workshops
Dedicated workshops on Deep Dive Planning, Search & Recovery, and Dive Site Mapping. You will also learn to run Scuba Review refreshers independently and supervise dive groups — skills you will use on every working day as a DM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The PADI Divemaster rating is recognised at dive centres worldwide. While Frogman cannot guarantee employment, many of our DM graduates go on to work professionally in Andaman, Thailand, the Maldives, and beyond. PADI is the world's largest diver training organisation.

It can technically be completed in 2 weeks if you rush, but we strongly recommend 4–6 weeks. More time means more real experience assisting actual student divers — which is what makes the difference between a certificate and genuine competence as a dive leader.

You need 40 logged dives to officially begin the DM course. If you're short, come early and do fun dives with us — Havelock is one of the best places to build your dive log. We can also arrange a Master Scuba Diver preparation package. Contact us to discuss your situation.

As a professional-level candidate, owning your own basic equipment (mask, fins, snorkel, dive computer, SMB) is strongly recommended. Frogman provides BCDs and regulators for training, but having your own full kit reflects the professional standard expected of a Divemaster.

PADI charges a registration fee (approximately USD 150) paid directly to PADI online. This is a standard professional cost at every PADI dive centre worldwide — it is not included in Frogman's course fee and covers your certification processing directly with PADI International.

Yes. The PADI Divemaster is the mandatory prerequisite for the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). After earning your DM, you are qualified to enrol in the IDC and become a fully certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI).

The listed price of ₹85,000 excludes GST. 18% GST is applicable as per Indian government regulations, bringing the total to ₹1,00,300. Your invoice will show the full breakdown. The PADI registration fee (~USD 150) is a separate payment made directly to PADI.

Did my DM at Frogman over 6 weeks. Working with real Open Water students on actual course days — that's what makes the difference. Came in as an Advanced diver and left qualified to lead dives professionally. Now working in Thailand.

Took a gap year and chose Havelock for the DM. The internship is real work — briefing divers, assisting in pool sessions with actual Open Water students, not simulations. Six weeks and I had 60 logged dives and a professional card.

The water skills module pushed me harder than I expected — in a good way. The swim tests are genuinely tough if you're not prepared. But the team coaches you through it. Completed the whole course in 5 weeks and now assisting on weekends.

I wasn't sure if I was ready for a professional course but the Frogman team assessed me honestly before I committed. The dive site mapping project was one of the most satisfying things I've done underwater. Already enrolled in the IDC.
