PADI Certification in Andaman: Your Questions Answered

Is Havelock Island a good place to get PADI certified?

Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) is one of the best places in India for PADI certification. Water temperatures stay between 27 and 30 degrees year round, visibility is typically 15 to 25 metres, and our dive sites are just a 10 minute boat ride from shore. At Frogman, you train on real coral reefs at sites like Nemo Reef and Aquarium, not in a swimming pool or murky lake.

Which PADI course should a complete beginner start with?

Start with the PADI Open Water Diver course. It takes 4 days and covers theory, confined water skills, and 4 ocean dives. You will be certified to dive to 18 metres with a buddy anywhere in the world. At Frogman, this costs ₹28,000 + GST with all gear, boat trips, PADI materials, and certification included.

Should I combine Open Water and Advanced in one trip?

If you have 6 to 7 days in Havelock, combining both is a great idea. You finish Open Water in 4 days, then Advanced in 2 to 3 days with 5 adventure dives including deep diving and navigation. This unlocks sites like The Wall and Minerva Ledge that Open Water divers cannot access. The combined cost at Frogman is ₹28,000 + ₹26,000 + GST.

How many days should I plan for each PADI course?

Open Water takes 4 days. Advanced Open Water is 2 to 3 days. EFR (Emergency First Response) is 1 day. Rescue Diver is 3 to 4 days. Divemaster runs 4 to 8 weeks. Our Zero to Hero internship, which covers everything from Open Water to Divemaster, takes about 60 days.

How much do PADI courses cost at Frogman?

Our course prices: Open Water is ₹28,000 + GST, Advanced Open Water is ₹26,000 + GST, Emergency First Response (EFR) is ₹12,000 + GST, Rescue Diver is ₹26,000 + GST, Divemaster is ₹85,000 + GST, and Zero to Hero (beginner to Divemaster) is ₹1,70,000 + GST. All prices include gear, boat trips, PADI materials, and certification fees.

Is my PADI certification from Andaman valid worldwide?

Yes. PADI certifications are recognised in over 180 countries. Your card is valid for life and lets you rent gear, book dives, and continue training at any PADI dive centre in the world. There is no expiry date, though we recommend a refresher if you have not dived in over a year.

Do I need to know how to swim for PADI certification?

Yes. PADI standards require you to complete a 200 metre swim and a 10 minute float or tread water test before certification. You do not need to be an Olympic swimmer, but you must be comfortable in deep water. If you cannot swim, we offer Try Dives (Discover Scuba) instead, where an instructor stays with you the entire time.

What are the prerequisites for Advanced, Rescue, and Divemaster?

Advanced Open Water requires PADI Open Water certification. Rescue Diver requires Advanced Open Water plus a current EFR (CPR and First Aid) certificate. Divemaster requires Rescue Diver, current EFR, and a minimum of 40 logged dives to start (60 to certify). EFR itself has no dive prerequisite and anyone can take it.

When is the best season for PADI courses in Havelock?

The best conditions are from October to May, when seas are calm and visibility is at its peak (often 20 to 30 metres). We operate year round at Frogman, but during June to September the monsoon brings stronger winds and we may use more sheltered sites. December to February is peak tourist season, so book early for those months.

Can I go from complete beginner to Divemaster in one trip?

Yes. Our Zero to Hero Internship takes you from non diver to PADI Divemaster in about 60 days. It includes Open Water, Advanced, EFR, Rescue, and Divemaster bundled together for ₹1,70,000 + GST. Accommodation at our facility is included. You save over ₹16,000 compared to doing each course separately.

How long should I wait before flying after my course?

PADI and DAN recommend waiting at least 18 hours after multiple dives before flying. Many experienced divers wait a full 24 hours to be safe. Plan your ferry and flight schedule accordingly. We always remind our students about this on the last day of training.

What is included in the course price at Frogman?

All Frogman course prices include instructor training, boat trips for all course dives, full scuba equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins, tank, weights), PADI eLearning or materials, certification card fees, and drinking water on the boat. Divemaster and Zero to Hero packages also include accommodation at our facility.
