What to Expect on Your First Scuba Dive in Havelock

Briefing

Your instructor explains hand signals, breathing, and basic safety. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes on land.

Shallow Practice

You practise breathing through the regulator in waist-deep water until you feel completely comfortable.

Yes. All beginner try dives at Frogman are designed for non-swimmers. Your instructor stays with you the entire time and controls your buoyancy and equipment. You breathe normally through a regulator and do not need to swim at all. The instructor guides you along the reef while you float alongside. Hundreds of non-swimmers dive with us every season.

Is scuba diving safe for first-time beginners?

Yes, when done with a reputable dive centre. At Frogman every beginner dive has a 1-on-1 instructor ratio. Your instructor is a certified professional who briefs you on everything, practises breathing with you in shallow water first, and stays within arm’s reach the whole dive. We use Scubapro equipment that is sanitised and serviced after every use.

How much does beginner scuba diving cost in Havelock?

At Frogman, beginner try dives start from ₹2,500 (shore dive at Nemo Reef) up to ₹6,500 (premium boat dives at Turtle Beach or Aquarium). All prices include a dedicated instructor, underwater photos, and videos.

What is the difference between a try dive and PADI Discover Scuba?

A try dive is a guided underwater experience where the instructor handles everything. PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) is a more structured programme that includes theory, confined water skills practice, and a proper ocean dive . DSD gives you a PADI credit that counts toward your Open Water certification if you decide to continue. If you want a more complete intro to diving, DSD is the better pick.

Which beginner package should I choose?

If you want the most affordable option: Nemo Reef (₹2,500 , shore dive). If you want a better site: Red Pillar (₹3,500 , boat dive). If you want a boat trip and deeper reef: Tribe Gate (₹4,500 ). What age limits apply for beginner scuba diving?

Most beginner try dives accept participants from 10 years and above. There is no upper age limit, but anyone over 50 or with medical conditions such as asthma, heart issues, or epilepsy needs a doctor’s clearance before diving. We recommend bringing a signed medical form from your home city to avoid delays in Havelock.

How deep do beginners go during a try dive?

Beginner try dives typically go to 5 to 12 metres depth, depending on the site and your comfort level. Shore dives at Nemo Reef and Red Pillar are usually 5 to 8 metres. Boat dives at Tribe Gate and Elite Boat Dive reach 8 to 12 metres. Your instructor adjusts the depth based on how comfortable you feel underwater.

How long does a beginner scuba dive last?

The underwater portion of a try dive lasts 30 minutes. The total experience including briefing, gearing up, shallow practice, the dive itself, and returning takes about 1 to 1.5 hours for shore dives and 2 to 3 hours for boat dives. PADI Discover Scuba is a full-day programme.

What should I bring for a beginner dive in Havelock?

Just bring a swimsuit or comfortable clothes you can get wet in, a towel, and sunscreen. We provide all scuba equipment: BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins, tank, and weights. If you wear contact lenses, you can dive with them under a mask. We also provide drinking water and changing facilities at our centre.

When is the best season for beginner diving in Andaman?

The best conditions run from October to May when seas are calm, visibility is highest (15 to 30 metres), and water temperature is a comfortable 27 to 30 degrees. December to February is peak tourist season, so book early. We operate year-round but monsoon months (June to September) can bring rougher seas.

Do I get photos and videos of my dive?

Yes. All beginner dives at Frogman include complimentary underwater photos and video. Our instructors capture your experience with underwater cameras and share the files with you the same day. This is included in the price at no extra charge.

Can I get certified after doing a beginner dive?

If you enjoy your try dive and want to dive independently, the next step is a certification course. PADI Open Water (4 days, ₹28,000 + GST) or RAID Open Water 20 (3-4 days, ₹28,000 + GST) will certify you to dive to 18-20 metres worldwide. If you did a PADI Discover Scuba, your DSD counts as credit toward your Open Water course.
