About the Long Island Andaman tour from Havelock

Long Island sits in the Middle Andaman group, about 30 nautical miles north of Havelock. It's known for Lalaji Bay, one of the few uninhabited white-sand beaches left in the Andamans, and a coral reef most travellers never reach. The Long Island Andaman ferry takes 5–7 hours each way through Rangat. A same-day visit by ferry is impossible.

We go direct. Our private boat to Long Island Andaman runs Havelock to Lalaji Bay in about 2 hours each way. That opens up the full day for the things people actually come for: an empty beach, a quiet snorkel reef, a mangrove creek, and a long unhurried lunch onboard with the boat anchored off the sand. It's the only Long Island Andaman tour that fits inside a single day from Havelock.

Skip the ferry: there is no direct Long Island Andaman ferry from Havelock. The government route goes via Rangat and takes 5–7 hours each way with road transfers in between. No good for a day trip. Our private boat to Long Island Andaman is the only practical same-day option.

Pickup early from Havelock, on Lalaji Bay by mid-morning, hotel drop by evening. Times shift slightly with tide and weather; everything below is typical.

We collect you from your Havelock hotel. Drive to the jetty, safety briefing, gear fitting on the boat, paperwork. Light breakfast loaded onboard: tea, juice, fruit, biscuits.

Departure: direct cruise to Long Island
Boat sails direct from Havelock. No ferry, no Rangat detour. About 2 hours each way across open water. Optional hand-line trolling on the cruise (trevally, tuna, barracuda are regular catches).

Anchor at Lalaji Bay
Boat anchors off the long curve of white sand at Lalaji Bay. Tender ashore for those who want feet on the beach. The bay is uninhabited. No resorts, no jetty, no shacks. On most days you'll have it entirely to yourselves.

Beach time & swim
Walk the kilometre of beach, swim in the gentle shelving water, photograph the empty shore. The forest backs the beach; bring a hat and reef-safe sunscreen as there's little shade.

Snorkel session at the south point
The reef sits 50 metres off the bay's south point in 4–8 m of clear water. Table corals, brain corals, soft coral garden. Common: parrotfish, snappers, surgeonfish, butterflyfish. Possible: reef sharks on the deeper edge, schooling fusiliers. Visibility 12–20 m on calm days.

Lunch onboard
Hot lunch served on the boat anchored in the bay: rice, dal, curry, fresh fruit. Veg and non-veg options. Unlimited water, juice, tea. Most people eat slow with their feet up.

Mangrove creek paddle (weather permitting)
A short creek opens into the lagoon at the bay's north end. If conditions allow we kayak in for a quiet 30-minute mangrove paddle. Kingfishers, mudskippers, sometimes a saltwater crocodile on the far bank (sighted from a safe distance).
Step 8 · 6:30 onwards
Cruise back & hotel drop
Boat heads back to Havelock, about 2 hours. Sunset return is available as an add-on (adds about 45 minutes). GoPro photos and short video sent to your WhatsApp before you leave the boat. Drop at your Havelock hotel.

The captain's call on the morning of departure is the call. Weather-cancelled trips are rescheduled or refunded in full.

Family-friendly: safe for all ages with vests for non-swimmers. Pregnant guests and anyone with active ear/sinus infections should skip the snorkel session but can still do the beach and lunch portion.

About Long Island and Lalaji Bay

Long Island is a small inhabited island in the Middle Andaman group, about 55 km north of Havelock. The village sits on the south-east coast: ferry jetty, a few homestays, a forest guesthouse, no real road network. Our destination is the opposite side. Lalaji Bay sits on the north-west coast, reachable from the village only by a 90-minute jungle trek, or directly by boat.

If you want an empty beach day with no crowds, yes, strongly. Lalaji Bay is one of the few Andaman beaches where you'll have a kilometre of white sand to yourself. The snorkel reef is healthy, the mangrove creek is unique to Long Island, and the cruise itself is half the experience. If you want shops, cafes, and convenience, stick with Havelock or Neil.

Yes. Long Island requires a Forest Department permit (₹500 Indian / ₹2,500 foreign), which we arrange as part of the booking. Bring a valid government photo ID; it's mandatory for the permit. The permit fee is paid in cash at the Havelock office on the day.
