About the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program sits between a basic try dive and a full certification course — more thorough than one, less commitment than the other. You'll spend 3.5–4 hours learning to actually dive: theory, confined water skills practice, and then an open water dive at a real dive site.

The open water dive is the centrepiece. You choose the site - from the sheltered shore entry at Nemo Reef (₹3,500) up to premium offshore sites like Turtle Beach and Aquarium (₹7,500). Your instructor is with you throughout the entire dive. GoPro photos and videos are included in every package.

DSD vs a Basic Try Dive - What's the Difference?

Basic Try Dive / Fun Dive

  • Instructor demonstrates skills; you follow
  • 20–30 min theory briefing only
  • No confined water practice
  • Maximum 12m depth with instructor at all times
  • No PADI registration or record

PADI Discover Scuba Diving

  • You learn the skills - mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy, equalisation
  • Full theory session with knowledge check
  • 30-min confined water practice before the open water dive
  • 40–45 min open water dive at a real dive site
  • PADI digital certificate and registration - counts toward Open Water course later

Credit toward certification: Your PADI DSD counts as the first dive of your Open Water Diver course. If you decide to get certified after your DSD, you start the OW course ahead. Ask us about our RAID Open Water course options.

Your DSD - Step by Step

Session 1 · 30 Min
Theory & Knowledge Check
Classroom session covering dive physics, how breathing underwater works, pressure and equalisation, equipment overview, and emergency procedures. Short knowledge review before you proceed. No exam - this is interactive, not a test.
Session 2 · 30 Min
Confined Water Skills
Shallow water (pool or calm shore entry) skills practice. You'll clear your mask, recover your regulator, practice neutral buoyancy, and learn to equalise your ears. Your instructor works with you one-on-one until you're comfortable with each skill before moving on.
Session 3 · 40–45 Min
Open Water Dive
The main event - your first real scuba dive at the site you've selected. Your instructor guides you through the reef. The GoPro captures everything. This counts as Dive 1 of the PADI Open Water course if you choose to certify later.
After · Same Day
Certificate & Photos
Digital PADI DSD certificate registered in your name. GoPro content transferred to your phone. Hotel drop completed. Total time from start to hotel drop: approximately 4 hours.

Health note: DSD is not suitable for guests with heart conditions, uncontrolled asthma, active ear infections, or recent surgery. A medical declaration form is completed on the day. If you're unsure, call us first - we'd rather advise correctly than have you show up and not be able to dive.

Choose Your Dive Site

Your open water DSD dive takes place at the site you select when booking. Each site has a different price based on boat time, distance, and the experience level of the diving environment. All sites are suitable for first-time divers on DSD - the difference is in the scenery and what you'll see.

Nemo Reef ₹3,500
Shore entry  ·  5–12m  ·  No boat wait

Havelock's most accessible DSD site - wade in from the beach. Clownfish in anemones at 1–3m, coral gardens, calm sheltered water. Best for those who want the simplest entry experience at the lowest price.

Red Pillar ₹4,500
Boat - 20 min  ·  10–18m  ·  15–30m visibility

The iconic vertical coral pillar covered in reddish-orange corals. Butterflyfish and angelfish schools swirl around the formation. Exceptional visibility - among the best at any local site.

Tribe Gate ₹5,500
Boat - 5 min  ·  3–15m  ·  15–20m visibility

An oval seamount with all five Andaman clownfish species and the highest giant Tridacna clam density of any local site. The Pavona coral ruins add a unique underwater landscape unlike any other DSD site.

Juvi's ₹6,500
Boat  ·  5–20m  ·  Premium site

A premium dive site with stunning coral formations and abundant sea life. Known for rich biodiversity and excellent visibility. A step up from the beginner sites in terms of the underwater landscape.

Lighthouse ₹6,500
Boat - 15 min  ·  3–23m  ·  20–30m visibility

Havelock's most versatile site - coral gardens, dramatic topography, and the highest sea turtle sighting rate of any local site. Best visibility windows: January–February. Iconic lighthouse beacon visible from the surface.

The Slope ₹6,500
Boat  ·  8–25m  ·  Great visibility

A gradual reef slope with diverse marine ecosystems at every depth level. Excellent visibility and a wide variety of reef fish. The depth progression makes it easy to navigate and control your time at different zones.

Turtle Beach ₹7,500
Boat - Premium  ·  5–18m  ·  Turtle sightings

A premium site named for its consistent sea turtle encounters. Pristine coral gardens in excellent condition. The longer boat journey (reflected in the price) takes you to an area of Havelock's waters that is genuinely remote and far less visited.

Aquarium ₹7,500
Boat - Premium  ·  5–22m  ·  Crystal clear water

Named for its extraordinary water clarity, this is Havelock's top-rated dive site for biodiversity. Incredible density of marine life at every depth. If you want the best possible first dive experience with maximum marine life, this is it.

Not sure which to choose? For a first dive on a budget: Nemo Reef. For the best beginner experience overall: Tribe Gate or Lighthouse. For maximum marine life and the "wow" factor: Aquarium or Turtle Beach. All sites are DSD-appropriate - the price difference reflects boat time, not difficulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

No - the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program is designed for complete beginners with no prior experience. You don't need to know how to swim. The theory session and confined water practice prepare you fully before the open water dive. You'll be diving with a certified instructor at a 1:2 ratio maximum.

A DSD is a structured PADI program: you learn actual diving skills (mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, equalisation) in confined water before your open water dive. A basic try dive typically skips the skills component - an instructor demonstrates and you follow. The DSD produces a PADI digital certificate and counts as Dive 1 of the Open Water course if you decide to certify later.

Yes - you can select or change your dive site when you confirm your booking via WhatsApp. If you're unsure at the time of booking, select Nemo Reef as the default and let us know your preference when we confirm. Upgrades to a different site are straightforward - just pay the difference.

The price difference reflects boat time, fuel, and crew logistics - not the difficulty of the dive. Nemo Reef (₹3,500) is a shore entry with no boat required. Aquarium and Turtle Beach (₹7,500 each) involve longer offshore boat journeys. The DSD program itself is identical at every site - the difference is purely the destination you dive.

Yes - your PADI DSD dive counts as the first required open water dive of the PADI Open Water Diver course. If you decide to get certified after your DSD experience, you start the course one dive ahead. Ask us about continuing with our RAID Open Water or PADI Open Water certification program.

The standard DSD includes a 40–45 minute open water dive. For an additional ₹1,500, your instructor extends your dive time by 15 minutes - giving you approximately 55–60 minutes underwater. This is particularly worthwhile at the premium sites (Lighthouse, Aquarium, Turtle Beach) where there is more to see and more ground to cover.

The listed prices (₹3,500–₹7,500) exclude GST. 18% GST applies as per Indian government regulations. For example, the ₹3,500 Nemo Reef DSD totals ₹4,130 with GST, and the ₹7,500 Aquarium DSD totals ₹8,850 with GST. Your invoice will show the full breakdown.
