Snorkelling in Havelock Island, Andaman

Havelock has genuinely good snorkelling. The water is warm year-round (27–30°C), visibility is typically 15–25 metres, and the reefs start shallow — meaning clownfish, turtles, giant clams, and parrotfish are right there, a metre below the surface.

We run sessions for all ages and experience levels — shore snorkels from the beach and boat trips to the outer reefs. Every session includes gear, a briefing, and a guide in the water with you.

Snorkelling in Havelock: FAQ

Do I need to know how to swim to go snorkelling?

Basic swimming ability helps but isn’t required. Shore sessions are in shallow water where you can stand. On boat trips we give you a life jacket that keeps you afloat. Our guide stays in the water with you. We’ve taken plenty of non-swimmers out.

What is the minimum age for snorkelling?

Children from 5 years old can join shore snorkel sessions with a parent in the water. Children from 6 years can join boat snorkel trips. There is no upper age limit. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on all sessions.

How much does snorkelling cost at Havelock?

At Frogman, snorkelling starts from ₹1,000 for a shore session at Nemo Reef, up to ₹5,000 for boat trips to Turtle Beach or Aquarium. All prices include gear and a guide in the water.

What is the best time for snorkelling in Havelock?

The best time is October to May when the sea is calm and visibility reaches 15–25 metres. December to April offers the clearest water. Monsoon months (June to September) can bring rougher seas, but snorkelling is still possible on calm days.

Can I see sea turtles while snorkelling?

Yes. Hawksbill and green turtles come up regularly to breathe — you don’t need much luck, just good timing. Turtle Beach and Nemo Reef are the most consistent spots. October to May is best.

How long does a snorkelling session last?

Shore sessions last 45–60 minutes in the water. Boat snorkel trips take 2–3 hours total including the boat ride and time at the reef. The Half Day Tour is 4–5 hours visiting two reef sites.

What should I bring for snorkelling?

Wear a swimsuit or clothes you can get wet in. Bring sunscreen (reef-safe if possible), a towel, and flip-flops. We provide all snorkelling equipment. If you wear prescription glasses, ask us — we have prescription masks available.

Is snorkelling safe at Havelock Island?

Yes. Life jackets for everyone, a briefing before you enter, and a certified guide with you throughout. Our boats carry first-aid kits. The reef animals at Havelock are used to snorkellers — nothing here is looking for trouble.

Can I snorkel if I have never snorkelled before?

None at all needed. Your guide covers everything on the beach or boat — breathing, clearing, fins. Most people have it figured out within a few minutes.

Can I combine snorkelling with scuba diving?

Yes — snorkel in the morning, try dive in the afternoon. Or upgrade on the day. Ask us and we’ll sort out a combined package.
